Hela was born as the youngest child of four in the realm of Asgard to Loki (father) and Death (mother). Hours after her birth, Hela was taken by a reaper, Vincent, back to Valhalla after Odin cursed Loki and the other kids to forget who they were. Once Odin's curse wore away, Hela falsely believed that she was Odin's daughter and attacked Asgard thinking that her false, violent past allowed her to become Asgard's queen. Hela grew up in the Afterlife where Death raised her and taught her the ways of a princess and future queen. Always excited about making mischief and having fun, Hela was known for being a little wild but was loved nonetheless. She grew to be loved by almost everyone in the Afterlife. Once of age, Death granted Hela reign over the Nordic realms of the Afterlife, where Hela became a benevolent queen.

Hela has always focused on the good of others. She is a compassionate girl who is always ready to hear suggestions and receives others' opinions with careful consideration. She has a warm, bubbly personality and is very easy to talk to. She may have been lied to about her family, but she still accepted her long-lost brothers and renegade father, Loki, with no hesitation. She feels guilty about what she did to Asgard and is even willing to give up her throne so the Nordic realms would have a better queen. However, the people loved her so much that they voted to keep her on the throne. Hela strives to do her best, despite being burdened with the crimes that she committed against her own, adoptive people.

Hela is trained to defend herself in battle if the situation arises. She is skilled in basic hand-to-hand combat, swordsmanship, and wielding a darker form of seidr. She can travel via shadows as a form of teleportation and can turn people into a pile of dust with her death touch. Hela strives to protect the Afterlife and keep it in order with her brothers, adoptive mother (Sigyn), Loki, and her boyfriend (Pietro Maximoff). She is a perfect example of a loving, accepting queen and princess who is always ready to do the best for her people.
